Chemical Reactions 1: Energy and Chemical Dynamics is the second optional course in a series of three for adults who are completing the Secondary V Chemistry program, equivalent to Chemistry 534 offered in the youth sector. Through applying the scientific method, this second course helps students gain a better understanding of chemical dynamics and the energy transfers involved in chemical reactions, and establish links with related technical phenomena, social changes and environmental consequences.

Duration: 50 hours (2 units)
Content:
  • Energy transfers during phase changes and when mixing substances with different temperatures.
  • Energy transfers during dissolution or chemical reactions.
  • The rate of chemical reactions and its dependent factors.
  • Collision theory and the relationship between energy, reaction rate and rate's dependent factors.
Evaluation:

The passing grade for the scored activities: 60%
The passing grade for the end of course evaluation: 60%
